Every year, hundreds of individuals with special needs are welcomed into the warm embrace of the Friendship Circle organization, where kids and volunteers learn about inclusion and acceptance of all people, regardless of their outward appearances. But what about all those who aren’t part of this circle? That’s the mission of the Bike 4 Friendship Team; to enlarge the circle and reach out to more people.
Last year, a group of 3 bikers embarked on a coast-to-coast stint across America. The bike ride created a buzz about Friendship Circle as the team stopped in cities along their route and met with children and volunteers at Friendship Circle chapters across the country. Bike 4 Friendship raised awareness and encouraged acceptance of individuals with special needs when they set out to tackle a daunting journey of over 3,500 miles to spread their message. With their beards and tzitzit flying in the wind, they proved that external differences don’t render an individual less deserving of respect, compassion and friendship.
Friendship for children with special needs starts by pushing limits, going beyond our comfort zones, and making it known that these individuals long to be included as well. The physical challenge of the Bike 4 Friendship ride is symbolic of the core philosophy of Friendship Circle.
Building on the success of last year’s debut trip, we’re doing it again this year! Our team of bikers has tripled in size, promising to generate even more positive coverage for Friendship Circle and its mission. Our enhanced program during the trip, includes a customized kosher diet and regular stops at many of America’s iconic tourist attractions. This is a trip you don’t want to miss!
Join the Bike 4 Friendship team on its adventure across America, Monday, July 2, 2012 as they retrace their steps, from California back to New York. Remaining spaces are filling up fast, so sign up for the entire trip, or a shorter segment.
